M.A. in Education Studies

The Master of Arts in Education Studies does not lead to initial teacher certification. It is designed for those who hold a B.A. degree in a variety of fields an opportunity to earn an advanced degree in education. Graduates should find opportunities in a variety of fields including non-profit organizations, after-school or tutoring businesses, and any non-certified required school setting (e.g., Boys and Girls Club, coaching, private or religious schools, etc.). 

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Critically Evaluate Educational Theories: Students will be able to critically analyze and apply theories of equity, social justice, and multicultural education to contemporary classroom practices, ensuring that they can support the diverse needs of all students in a democratic, multicultural society.
  • Develop and Implement Multicultural Curriculum: Students will design and implement curricula that are responsive to the developmental, social, and cultural needs of young adolescents, integrating multicultural and constructivist theories to promote inclusive and equitable learning environments.
  • Lead and Advocate for Curricular Change: Students will demonstrate the ability to lead and advocate for curricular changes within educational settings by developing and implementing advocacy plans grounded in needs assessments, educational policy, and current research trends.
  • Analyze Educational Practices Through Historical and Social Contexts: Students will analyze and interpret educational practices through historical, philosophical, and sociocultural lenses, understanding the impact of these perspectives on current educational policies and practices.Ad

Admission Requirements

  • Complete an online application through the LaGrange College Admission’s on-line application system;
  • Have a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or higher;
  • Submit satisfactory official transcripts from each graduate and undergraduate institution attended for analysis;
  • Earn a minimum score on the TOEFL exam of at least 550 if English is not the applicant’s primary language;
  • Complete a successful interview with the MAT Advisor; and
  • Receive approval from Department of Education Chair.
